In their words.
The guy who mows my lawn can't stop talking about how good the windows look.
Everyone is talking about how good a job he did on the windows.
He did such a good job I booked him for my mother's house too.
A great job done! Polite, efficient and clean windows! All of our windows were cleaned as asked, thank goodness I didn't have to climb ladders to do the second floor!
Witnessed this impeccable workmanship done today! Absolutely more than pleased! The best to you Ben!
Count your panes.
Plug in the numbers. The estimate updates as you type. I confirm the count on the day. Every separate piece of glass is one pane, so a plain up-and-down window is two.
Window washing for homes and cottages across Richmond and Inverness counties.
Based in River Bourgeois. I cover all of Richmond County, up through Port Hood, Mabou, Inverness, Whycocomagh, and Baddeck, and out to Antigonish and Sydney. The towns in between, too. Spring cottage openings are some of my favourite jobs.
Mostly from the ground.
Outside windows get cleaned from the ground using a 25-foot extension pole. That reaches the second storey, the dormers, and most third-storey windows without a ladder touching your siding. For the odd window the pole can't get at properly, I bring a ladder. Either way, the glass gets done.
The water is either distilled or run through a reverse-osmosis filter, so it dries clear. No mineral spots, no streaks.
If you add the inside, I clean by hand, room by room. Frames and sills wiped down. Boot covers on at the door. Dry floors, clean trim.
When the work is done, I write you a receipt on the spot.
Before you call.
How long does a typical job take?
Most houses take an hour or two.
Do I need to be home?
For exterior, no. I work from the outside. Just make sure I have access to the back of the house. If you've added inside windows, somebody needs to be home to let me in.
Can you reach my second-storey windows?
Yes, most of them. I use a 25-foot extension pole from the ground. That reaches the second storey, the dormers, and most third-storey windows. For anything the pole can't reach properly, I use a ladder or clean from inside the house. If there's a window I can't get to safely, I'll tell you before I start.
Do you do cottages?
Yes. Opening up for the season is one of my favourite jobs. Tell me when you'll be there and I'll fit it in.
Do you clean windows year-round?
Spring through fall mostly. I'll clean in the shoulder seasons if the weather cooperates. Below freezing, the water can streak before I get to it, so I don't book those days.
Do you clean the inside too?
Yes, as an add-on. $5 per standard pane, any floor. Picture windows and patio doors are $15 per pane inside, same as outside. Most homeowners just book the outside, especially in the spring. If you want both, just tell me when you call.
What about screens?
$3 per screen. I take them out, clean them, put them back. If you don't want screens cleaned, I leave them where they are.
How do I count panes?
Every separate piece of glass is one pane. A plain window with one sheet of glass on top and one on the bottom is two panes. A window with a grid of six small panes is six. A picture window is usually one big pane. A sliding patio door is two. If you're not sure, send a photo or a rough guess and I'll confirm the count on the day.
Are you insured?
Fully insured. $2 million general liability policy through TD Commercial Insurance. Certificate available on request. Just ask and I will send it before I show up. Owner-operated by Ben Kelly out of River Bourgeois.
How do I pay?
Cash or e-transfer when the work is done. I write you a receipt on the spot. Email follow-up if you want one for your records.
